In 1549, the vast charnel house of St Pauls' Cathedral was emptied of its inhabitants and, if the stories are to be believed, one thousand cartloads of human bones clattered through the City of London to a site north of the city. Here, the piles of bones were so vast that their final resting place was known as Bunhill "Bone-hill" Fields forever more. Now one of inner London's most famous old cemeteries, Bunhill Fields continues to enthrall and inspire, and its origins cast light on how Londoners of the past viewed - or hid from - their dead.
Join Caroline as she retraces and reimagines this macabre journey from St Paul's to Bunhill Fields, examining the City's ever-changing relationship with the dead and visiting some its most celebrated and enigmatic burial grounds on the way.
Tickets £12 including a 20% donation toward a host of restoration projects at Nunhead Cemetery.
Caroline Swan is a London-based historian and qualified tour guide Walks with Caroline. Also the author of the Flickering Lamps blog, Caroline seeks out hidden, forgotten, and underappreciated places across London and beyond, telling the stories of strange street names, old burial grounds, ancient churches and much more besides. She has worked with London Month of the Dead since 2017.

A Curious Invitation and Antique Beat
This year Antique Beat and A Curious Invitation will be hosting The London Month of the Dead, a series of 36 different events investigating the capital’s relationship with its deceased residents. Events will include a private view of the Museum of London’s bone archive, taxidermy workshops, macabre walking tours and private views and a programme of weekend death salons with talks on subjects ranging from public dissection and body snatching to reincarnation and funereal folklore. Each salon will feature a pair of speakers, authorities in fields such as osteology, forensic pathology and the paranormal, who will offer their own perspectives and insights on mortality in the city.
Each year the London Month of the Dead donates 20% of all ticket revenue to one of London's magnificent seven cemeteries. In 2017 all of the death salons and concerts will be hosted at the Dissenters and Anglican chapels at Kensal Green. In previous years the month's programme has centered around Brompton Cemetery but the chapel is now undergoing important restoration work, a project the London Month of the Dead is proud to have supported.
The London Month of the Dead has been curated by a Curious Invitation and Antique Beat to inform, entertain and provoke on the subject of death and London cemeteries.

4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
8. Tickets are sold subject to the venue or promoter's right to alter or vary the programme due to events or circumstances beyond its control without being obliged to refund monies or exchange tickets.
9. If this ticket is re-sold or transferred for profit or commercial gain by anyone other than the promoter, venue management, DesignMyNight or one of their authorised sub-agents, it will become voidable and the holder may be
refused entry to or ejected from the venue.
