For the first time in over a decade, the catacombs beneath the Anglican Chapel at Kensal Green Cemetery will be opened for a guided tour. These subterranean vaults, long sealed from public view, are steeped in mystery and silent with the memory of those interred within.
Please
note:
• Visitors will be
required to sign a health and safety disclaimer before
entry.
• Not suitable for those
with mobility issues or severe claustrophobia.
• Flat shoes and torches

Kensal Green Cemetery, consecrated in 1833, was the very first
of London’s Magnificent Seven garden cemeteries, founded to bring
dignity and design to burial grounds at a time when the capital’s
churchyards were overflowing. Today, the cemetery is a Grade I
listed site, home to around 65,000 graves, 140 listed monuments,
and a beguiling landscape of tumbled tombstones, overgrown paths
and majestic trees that lend it a romantic, melancholic
beauty.
Now, for the bold and the curious, we invite you to explore the
crypt beneath the Anglican Chapel, an underworld of vaulted
chambers and shadowy corridors. Due to the nature of the site, all
visitors must sign a waiver acknowledging the risks of entry.
Access is strictly limited, and you will be entering entirely at
your own peril.

London Culture and Heritage guide and a trustee at Kensal Green and
Brompton cemeteries. He teaches on London and death studies. Robert
is also chairman of the National Federation of Cemetery
Friends.
