Necrophilia stands as one of the most abject sexual deviancies in the catalogue of paraphilias. It has been present throughout history but only recently has there been a concerted effort to study and categorise the varieties of necrophiliac behaviour.
In this lecture Madeleine LeDespencer will discuss Necrophilia in art, literature, and the criminal record. We will explore notable case studies of necrophilia throughout history and how modern forensic criminologists classify the various manifestations of this behaviour to better understand what drives the living to see intimacy with the dead. From the tender sentimentality of Mary Shelley keeping her husband’s heart in a tin box to the brutal necrosadism of François Bertrand, the full spectrum of necrophilia will be uncovered and exposed.

Each year, Antique Beat and A Curious Invitation host London Month of the Dead, a festival of over 60 different events to inform, provoke and entertain on teh subject of mortality and the city.
Events include walks, talks, workshops, theatrical performances, storytelling, live-scored films, concerts, and visits to secret parts of the city.
Subjects span the cultural landscape from the forensic to the esoteric with an unparalleled range of speakers, performers, guides and experts.
Each year, London Month of the Dead donates 20% of ticket revenue to one of London's magnificent seven cemeteries.

1. The ticket holder voluntarily assumes all risks and danger incidental to the event for which the ticket is issued, whether occurring prior, during or after the event.
