SHADOWS OF THE BLACK DEATH
The Plague Pits of East London - A Guided Tour
 with Sam Perrin

Walking through the bustling streets of London, it's difficult to fathom that beneath your feet lie the remnants of a grim past — a haunting secret concealed beneath the city's iconic landmarks, lush green spaces, bustling underground railways, and even its everyday supermarkets. Unbeknownst to many, London's subterranean depths conceal the remains of roughly 100,000 souls, victims of a merciless contagion that ruthlessly decimated a quarter of the city's population in just over a year. The sheer magnitude of the deceased overwhelmed churchyards and hastily dug pits, where they were laid to rest without ceremony. Men, women, and children alike were indiscriminately claimed by the relentless scourge of the bubonic plague, a cataclysmic event that shook London and Europe to its core.

Join historian Samanthan Perrin on this walking tour to explore some of the known and speculated sites of east London's plague pits from Bunhill Fields to Whitechapel.

As a London Month of the Dead regular, I was chuffed to have an event around Christmas. The performance was fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect!

We were a little disappointed that we were unable to hear Casting the Runes. The other stories were fun though, especially the Judge’s House. How could it go wrong with Bram Stocker in charge!
