Join us for an evening
of early cinema with a screening of Nosferatu, the original silent
adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, accompanied by a live musical
score.
Directed by F. W. Murnau, Nosferatu remains one of the most
atmospheric and visually striking horror films ever made. With its
stark lighting, distorted angles, and unforgettable performance by
Max Schreck as Count Orlok, this 1922 classic defined the look of
cinematic horror for generations to come.
On this special autumn evening, as Halloween approaches, witness
the eerie magic of this film brought vividly to life by acclaimed
silent film accompanist Stephen Horne, performing a live score on
piano.
A rare chance to see one of the great masterpieces of German
Expressionist cinema in a setting as evocative as the film
itself.
Stephen
Horne
Stephen Horne has
long been internationally considered one of the leading silent film
accompanists. A house pianist at London’s BFI Southbank for over
thirty years, he has played at all the major UK venues and recorded
music for scores of films. Although principally a pianist, he often
incorporates other instruments into his performances, sometimes
simultaneously. He regularly performs internationally and in recent
years his accompaniments have met with acclaim at film festivals in
Europe, North America and Asia. In 2011 and 2012, he was
commissioned to compose ensemble scores for the London Film
Festival Archive Galas of 'The First Born' and 'The Manxman'. And
every year since 2014, he has won in one or more categories in the
annual Silent London poll.
